With the last days of May upon us I thought I’d make use of a little quiet time this morning to trawl through my stash and pull out a few ideas for the month ahead. I already know that I am going to Quilt Along with Christa and I also want to make a mini quilt for the Modern Mini Quilt Challenge which is being held by Jennifer over at Ellison Lane Quilts.  However, I do not see these projects filling up all of my spare time and so, after a little searching, I have come up with a few ideas.

Yesterday afternoon we popped by Ikea and needless to say I was happy to stop for a browse in their fabric section. Although most of their fabrics are not suited to quilting I do often manage to find something there that I can put to other uses. Yesterday it was this beautiful heavyweight dusky pink cotton that just screamed “I’m a bag” to me.

And so a bag it shall be. Of course to make it into the bag I want it to be I need more colour, more texture and so I came up with what I consider to be a lovely matching selection of Dreaming in French by Pat Bravo for Art Gallery Fabrics.

If I am making one bag, I might try and make a second and get a head start on making some of the gifts I will need for one or two little girls in a few months time. I have a few scraps from the Gypsy line by Pillow and Maxfied for Michael Miller fabrics and these too team up well with my Ikea fabric.

For something a little bit different I have pulled out these fabrics from the British company Fabric Freedom. They ave been sitting my stash for a few years now and are from their Dream Deco range, which I believe was inspired by Carlton Ware. I thinking of doing something with circles on a dark background – reminiscent of plates perhaps.

And finally a little play time. I’ve been playing around with some fabric designs on Spoonflower and my swatch samples  finally arrived this week. I’m hoping I might get a chance to play around with these a bit and start piecing together a summer throw quilt to see if I am happy with my final designs and how they work together.
As it’s Sunday, I’m linking up with Sunday Stash over at Finding Fifth.

  1. Lovely fabric swatches, really fresh summery colours, they’ll look great on a summer throw. Can’t wait to see the bags either, I’ve never made any bags myself yet… :o)

  3. Your fabric pulls for both bags are such a perfect match for that Ikea fabric! And your spoonflower fabrics are delicous 🙂
