For the past couple of weeks I have wanted to join For the past couple of weeks I have wanted to join in #sipteaandepp with Irina @nordiccrafter and Larisa @stitchingnotes but was busy with holidays and then with playing catch up at home. Today, though, I am happy to finally have the time to join in the fun and especially discussion on how EPP has helped with our mental and physical health.

When I first started to EPP I didn’t expect to enjoy it. I felt it would be too slow for me and I would be too impatient for a finish. I couldn’t have been more wrong. The slow sewing was wonderful. I could lose myself in the stitching, relax and simply sew each seam, unwind after a busy day, refocus can calm when times were stressful. It became my constant companion and I now always have at least a few projects on the go and ready to work on.

At the start of this year, I promised myself that when I was at home, I would try to make some crafting time for myself each day. Once we got back into our routines after Christmas that is exactly what I have been doing. It lets me switch off from the stresses and worries of day-to-day life, which are many and varied as I mostly solo parent my way through a pandemic. Because I always seem to have no end of projects left to finish, I can always find something to suit my mood and needs.

Today I have pulled out one of my long-term projects to work on. Back when I started doing EPP I designed a lot of EPP butterflies (yes also still a long-term project) and then a series of dragonflies. It took me quite some time to decide how I wanted to use the dragonflies on a quilt and even then I seem to only ever working on it in fits and starts. Maybe this will be the year I finally finish it!

I’m sure I started this project well over a year I’m sure I started this project well over a year ago and I’ve changed direction with it a few times during that time.
This project was initially inspired by a rainbow picot petal flower Scheepjes blanket by @carinascrafts but it has taken me quite some time and investing in a second Scheepjes yarn colour pack to find my direction.
My plan is to complete 58 of these fusion Grandmother’s flower garden blooms and then piece them all together to form a blanket. I will possibly/probably use extra Liberty hexies to join the flowers together or even make extra Liberty blooms depending on what is needed when I work on the final layout.

Getting a little bit of sewing in on a project tha Getting a little bit of sewing in on a project that hasn’t progressed at all this week.
All my spare time this week was spent playing catch up after the holidays and shopping for all those bits I know I‘ll need over the next few weeks when many of the shops will be shut. Hopefully next week I’ll get back to sewing again.

I was most grateful for those couple of hours with my crochet hook and sewing needle as crafting time is almost non existent atm. My evenings seem to be spent playing catch up at home following our return from holidays. What spare time I do have during the day has so far been spent out shopping. With a lockdown rumoured to be looming I thought it best to pick up some important things like birthday cards for the slew of upcoming birthdays and seedling compost, as it will soon be that time of year again.
