It’s week two of working on the Countdown Quilt and I’m here to share the next two blocks with you.
This week I decided I would play with some hexagons and diamonds. Hexagons are probably my least favourite English Paper Piecing Shape. They are, without doubt, a great shape for beginners. When I first started EPP, I began with hexagons. They are quick to sew and they tile wonderfully so you can easily work on projects using just hexagons. I think this is possibly, why I am not such a huge fan of them, unless they are really tiny. I really enjoy variation in design and creating new and interesting patterns with a combination of shapes. I also find that I tend to be drawn to octagons a lot more for the symmetry they bring to designs.
However, while I may not be a huge fan of the humble hexagon it does not mean I never sew with it. The first of this week’s blocks for the Countdown Quilt, therefore, celebrates hexagons in full and partial form.
The second block showcases diamonds. In this case, the diamonds are the only traditional EPP shape in the block. I really like the combination of traditional and non-traditional pieces, and am pleased how the diamonds have become the star of the block.
If you want to try making either of these blocks you can follow the link below to open the pdf file that contains both templates:
If you missed week one and the first two blocks then you can find them here. I hope to see you back here next week for the next additions to the Countdown Quilt block set. Until then, happy sewing!
