The summer holidays in a nutshell - camping, pott The summer holidays in a nutshell - camping, pottery painting, rock painting, kite flying, photography, day trips, reading and more. There was early morning kayaking on a sea lime glass and late night sewing on the shore. And most importantly there was family time.
This photo pretty much sums up my summer so far. T This photo pretty much sums up my summer so far. There have been cloudy days and blue sky days and far too many wet weekends and stormy evenings.
There has been lots of work but also lots of cross stitching. I had great plans to do cross stitching during the week (it’s a bit more portable than my current EPP project) and then sitting in the garden and working on my current EPP project at weekends have been well scuppered by the weather.
But everything has its time, and I’m hopeful that this weekend, the first dry weekend forecast in a long time, I might finally get some of that garden time I’ve been looking forward to.

But thankfully there was some well earned down time this weekend and wI’ve managed to fit in a little Sunday sewing, or cross stitching to be exact, while enjoying family time at the kitchen table with my SIL who is busy adding a few scouting badges to my nephew’s shirt.

I changed jobs in June and while my commute is sti I changed jobs in June and while my commute is still the same I often have to work en route which means I don’t have as much free time to craft on the train.
I do make sure I always have a small cross stitch project in my bag though they take up so little space and as I keep the patterns on my laptop I can jump in and out of them as work allows.

I had this project packed up and earmarked for the I had this project packed up and earmarked for the summer holidays , but I couldn’t resist pulling it out this evening as EPP is the only handcraft I really still enjoy when the weather gets overly hot.

Today was one of those overly hot days and so now that the temperatures are slowly dropping I’m sitting in the dark, windows wide open to cool down the house, stitching away with one little spotlight shining just where I need it.

It’s been far too long since I last did some EPP and I had forgotten how much simple joy there is in seeing the design grow and I add the pieces one by one.

Scroll through the photos and you’ll see it’s not quite the idyllic start it may seem at first glance.
The story behind the photos is on the blog if you want to read some more.

Time to make some plans. I’ve gradually been st Time to make some plans.
I’ve gradually been stitching and restitching some Beatrix Potter designs from patterns and kits in my stash. Five are almost down and I think I have three more to do.
I’ve ordered and received some really wonderful Liberty lawn Beatrix Potter prints from Japan.
Now to start planning how to put them all together into either a larger cushion cover or nice lap quilt for myself.
