We sarted a holiday weekend here when we finished up work and school on Wednesday lunchtime, so sewing time on the Countdown Quilt has been fairly limited this week.

Coundown Quilt Blocks 5 and 6 | Mud, Pies and Pins

However, I wasn’t going to let holidays get in the way of progress so I picked two quick and easy blocks to make this week.

Coundown Quilt Block 5 | Mud, Pies and Pins

The first block features a simple lone octagon on the Liberty background. For me this block brings to mind the sun shining on a floral garden. It is quite apt as spring has returned with a vengence here lately and flowers abound in the sunshine.

Coundown Quilt Block 6 | Mud, Pies and Pins

The second block fits well with the same theme as it is reminscent of a butterfly, and they too are becomming more common now in the good weather.

At the moment I find that I am sticking with pink Liberty fabrics for the backgrounds. As I do not have all of the block for the quilt designed, and consequently have no idea of my final layout, I am not quite sure of the colour scheme I wish to use. I am torn between doing a two colour quilt that would use up the myriad of pinks and blues in my Liberty stash and doing one with a more varied mix. I guess time will tell how this is going to turn out.
